Who we are

JustBe (justbe.app) is a volunteering platform that connects volunteers with schools, PTAs and community organisations in the UK. JustBe Platform Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17225014), is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (registration ZC161027). What we collect

We collect only the information needed to run the platform:

• Account details: your name, email address and password (stored encrypted; we never see it)
• Volunteer profile: the skills, availability, general location and short description you choose to share
• Organisation details: organisation name, contact details and, for schools and charities, registration identifiers used for verification
• Activity on the platform: opportunities and events you sign up for, applications, time slots and messages sent through the platform
• Support requests: anything you send to our help address or through the in-app help form

We do not collect dates of birth, financial information or identity documents, and we do not use advertising trackers.

Why we use your information

We use your information to run the service you have signed up for: matching volunteers with opportunities, managing event rotas, sending the emails the service depends on (confirmations, rotas, reminders and cancellations) and responding to support requests. The lawful basis for this is the performance of our contract with you, and in some cases our legitimate interest in running and improving the platform safely. We do not send marketing email.

Where your information lives

Your data is stored on GDPR-compliant infrastructure provided by Supabase (database and authentication) and Vercel (hosting), with transactional email delivered by Resend. Each provider processes data under a data processing agreement. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Who can see your information

Access is restricted by design. An organisation can see only the volunteers who have joined its community or applied to its opportunities and events. Volunteers see only their own information. Platform administration access is limited to JustBe staff and used only to operate and support the service.

Young people

JustBe is designed for adult volunteers. Where an organisation involves volunteers under 18 (for example Duke of Edinburgh participants), the organisation remains responsible for its own safeguarding procedures, and the platform's safeguarding guidance reflects UK DBS requirements.

How long we keep information

We keep your information while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information from the platform; records an organisation needs for its own purposes (for example that an event took place) are retained without your personal details. Email us at help@justbe.app to request deletion.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how it is used. Contact help@justbe.app and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

JustBe uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will note the new date above and, where appropriate, let you know by email.
